Dr Maria Abreu is a Research Fellow at the Department of Economic Geography, University of Groningen, The Netherlands, and Fellow of the Programme on Regional Innovation, Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. Her research interests include regional economic development, regional innovation and spatial economics. Prior to this she worked for the World Bank as a consultant on the regional economic development. She completed her PhD on the "Spatial Determinants of Economic Growth and Technology Diffusion" at the Free University Amsterdam in August 2005.
