16/11/2006 - Lean Six Sigma: Strategies and Applications

This executive education programme explores the core concepts underpinning Lean and Six Sigma and defines their goals and approaches. Key issues addressed include: to what extent can these two concepts can be used jointly? How, and under what circumstances? How can an organisation get the best of both the lean and six sigma worlds?

The application and implementation of lean concepts across business processes and industries

Lean principles represent an approach to operational excellence that, properly applied, yields unparalleled levels of productivity and quality. More recently, the Six Sigma approach developed by Motorola has gained an equal presence in controlling processes and eliminating waste in business processes.

Combining these approaches, Lean Six Sigma is a management tool that can be applied not only to manufacturing operations, but equally successfully to managing whole supply chains, service operations, and other business processes such as product development.
