The Engineering and Physical Science Research Council Network on Quantum Interference, Correlations and Technology, and the Quantum Technologies Group of the Cambridge-MIT Institute are jointly holding a Summer School to provide a broad overview of quantum information theory and technology for science communicators, graduate students and researchers from academia and industry.

Ten experts in quantum information science have been invited to speak on topics ranging from the fundamental aspects of quantum information science, quantum communication and cryptography, to architectures for quantum information processing using optics, nuclear magnetic resonance, trapped ions, and solid-state systems.

To promote the exchange of ideas and integration of knowledge across disciplines, there will be presentations, discussion groups and numerous opportunities for interaction between speakers and delegates.

Sponsors

  • The Cambridge-MIT Institute (CMI) is a pioneering partnership between two world-class institutions: the University of Cambridge in the UK and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US. Established in July 2000, it receives funding from the UK government and industry partners to carry out education and research to enhance the competitiveness, productivity and entrepreneurship of the UK economy.
  • CMI sponsors the Quantum Technologies Group. The Quantum Technologies Group is focused on developing the technologies required to commercially realise the opportunities offered by quantum cryptography, communication, metrology and computation.
  • The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is the UK Government's leading funding agency for research and training in engineering and the physical sciences.
  • The EPSRC sponsors the Quantum Interference Correlations and Technology network (QuICT). The purpose of the network is to support a coordinated programme of collaboration including training of younger scientists, exchanges and visits, workshops, and encourage research initiatives.
  • Queen's University, Belfast has a record of academic achievement which stretches back more than 150 years. Founded by Queen Victoria, the Queen's University in Ireland, was designed to be a non-denominational alternative to Trinity College Dublin which was controlled by the Anglican Church.
  • The Insitute of Physics is a leading international professional body and learned society with over 37,000 members, which promotes the enhancement and dissemination of a knowledge of and education in the science of physics, pure and applied.
